The Hmong Special Guerilla Units (SGUs)
Who We Are
The SGU Veterans & Families Development of USA, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) and 501(c)(19) non-profit organization established by former members of America’s Special Guerrilla Units (SGUs) in Laos during the Vietnam War and their family members. We provide critical educational programs for our members, and work to improve the SGU veterans and their family members’ access to health care, senior care, housing, other social services, legal aid, and employment opportunities.
To support and advocate for SGU veterans and their families. We seek equitable benefits from the U.S. government to recognize the SGU veterans’ crucial and unique military service to America during the Vietnam War.
We have over 6,500 members in 32 chapters in the United States, and additional chapters in Canada and France.
Our efforts to secure equitable benefits for the SGU veterans are supported by Colonel James William (“Bill”) Lair—who headed the CIA’s paramilitary operations in Laos and helped lead efforts to recruit members for the SGUs—and numerous other CIA and former American military personnel who directed the SGU’s military operations in Laos.
